On 1st July 1998, the Gutenbach branch of the Black Forest Club took over as tenant of the Bergvesperstube Hintereck Mountain Inn. Following a year of negotiations with the State Forestry Office of Furtwangen, the leasing agreement has finally been signed. Thus, the foundation for the revitalisation of this formerly much loved and widely known walkers' destination was laid.

The Vesperstube (Mountain Inn) lies at a height of 950 m beneath the Kaiserebene (Emperor's Plain) on the Sun terrace of the Simonswaltertal valley. You can reach it on foot from the "Herrengarten" car park on the L173 Simonswald to Gutenbach road past Waldersteig in around 45 minutes or alternatively, from the Lehmannskreuz car park on the Dorerhohe in around 20 minutes.

Volume 5 of "Walking in the Black Forest" by Falk Foundation e.V. describes under point 87 a beautiful circular walk around the Simonswaldertal valley, taking you directly past the Vesperstube.

The Vesperstube, a walkers' hostal, is managed by four volunteers of the Gutenbach branch support team. Mattresses are available for overnight stays.

Aussicht Here you can also sample homemade food. The local butcher of Buhlhof supplies sausages and bacon, while cheese comes from the organic farm "Untere Leimgrube" and some of the bread available is also baked on local farms.

Time permitting, the tenants even bake their own bread.
